Third Way economics or just Thatcherism?
Article Abstract:
The UK government's Third Way approach is basically concerned with how a government of the left can retain market and business confidence, as well as creating room for redistribution and improved public service provision. A regulation-based approach to macroeconomic policy has been used to seek to boost market confidence and financial stability. Resources have been moved into key public services, and labour market reform has been undertaken. However, no progress has yet been made with creating new types of enterprise. Furthermore, the government is experiencing difficulties with the non-profit, mutual sector.

Following in Gingrich's footsteps
Article Abstract:
The US has seen a libertarian revolution over recent years, personified by Newt Gingrich. His views will now start to take hold in the UK, in the same way as ideological views passed from the UK to the US in the 1980s. In his view, individualism is expressed as a radical attack on the state. Until now, his attack has focused on the US federal fiscal deficit. In the longer term, libertarianism will involve reducing the role of government as a supplier of welfare and a provider of public services.

Whoever said 'no turning back'?
Article Abstract:
The long-standing stereotypes which have characterised debate in the UK on relations with the European Union are beginning to crumble as the European Commission moves towards economic deregulation and privatisation, policies which have traditionally been promoted by Euro-sceptics. Political positioning in the UK is now being made to seem rather bizzare, and the Eurosceptics' failure to notice changes in Europe's trade policies is alienating their own business supporters.
