This Government is more Old Labour than it thinks

Article Abstract:

Those responsible for handling the UK Labour party's media image have placed strong emphasis on the fact that the Labour government is moving away from the Labour party's long-standing traditions. They hope in this way to gain the support of middle class voters. In fact, these voters are seeking a much bolder and more radical approach from the government. However, media manipulation could in fact be designed to appeal to press owners and financial markets, rather than to any specific political constituency.

Welcome to the ideology-free world of the New Labour lobbyist

Article Abstract:

The fact that political lobbyists have direct access to senior policymakers in the UK government, and even to politicians themselves, raises serious questions about democracy. It is becoming clear that a group of lobbyists with good government connections have exploited these links. They have acted as activists, rather than just lobbyists, and do not subscribe to a specific ideology. There is now almost a generation of young Labour Party supporters who are both activists and part of a network of lobbyists.

These spin doctors thrive in our backstabbing culture

Article Abstract:

Spin-doctoring, or emphasizing a particular aspect of political developments, has gained a significant role in UK politics. The difficulty with spin-doctoring is that the practitioners have begun to be too closely linked with the person they serve. They are now focusing on promoting that person and on damaging the reputation of anyone opposed to that person. Instead, they should be seeking to promote the cause of the Labour government as a whole.
