This is a tale of racing folk: an aristocratic trainer, his defiant wife, a ruthless sheikh and a feudal town in shock

Article Abstract:

The town of Newmarket, one of the centres of racehorse training in the UK, has seen a number of scandals recently which have upset its almost feudal structure. The latest of these has been the decision by racehorse owner Sheikh Mohammed to dismiss leading trainer Henry Cecil, who is himself very wealthy and from an aristocratic background. This was because Cecil's wife revealed recently that Cecil was frustrated by trading practices introduced by the Sheikh.

Zimbabwe tells Mugabe to quit

Article Abstract:

There is growing pressure on Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to resign. Many ordinary Zimbabweans are now seeking change, and this has been reflected in riots, demonstrations and strikes. Even members of the ruling Zanu-PF party are beginning to admit that Mugabe is becoming a liability. Observers feel that changes must be made to the entire political system in Zimbabwe, as merely replacing Mugabe will not be sufficient to bring real results.

Racing with the devil - and paying the price

Article Abstract:

The Isle of Man attracts many motorbike enthusiasts during the fortnight each year when the TT races are held. The spectators often race the official TT track themselves when no races are being held, enjoying the fact that no speed limits are imposed outside built-up areas. This can result in many accidents, to both riders and spectators. The local people admit that this is a problem, but would not like to see the scale of the event reduced.
