Time fails to heal wounds of Lockerbie victim's family

Article Abstract:

Jane Swire, whose daughter Flora was killed at the age of 24 in the bomb attack on Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on Dec 21, 1988, believes that her husband Jim needs to be very involved in identifying those responsible for the bombing. She accepts that this is his way of trying to come to terms with the loss of their daughter, but also feels that their family life has been negatively affected. In contrast, she prefers to remain away from media attention. He has made an extensive study of terrorist groups, and believes that warnings of an imminent terrorist attack were kept from the public.

South Africa's white farmers under siege

Article Abstract:

White farmers in South Africa are becoming increasingly frustrated about receiving very little protection from the government against violent and sometimes fatal attacks. Indeed, it is now looking increasingly likely that farmers will begin to set up rural vigilante groups. The Transvaal Agricultural Union believes that, with the exception of the police, more farmers are now being murdered than any other professional group. There have been 1,000 attacks on farmers since 1995, with more than 100 farmers having been killed.
