Todor Zhivkov

Article Abstract:

Politician Todor Zhivkov joined the Communist Party youth movement while working as an apprentice in the Bulgarian State Printing House. He became a full-time party functionary in 1933, and during the second world war was a political officer with the Chavdar partisan brigade. By Dec 1948, he was first secretary of the Sofia party committee and a full member of the central committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party. He was Prime Minister of Bulgaria between 1962 and 1971 and Head of State between 1971 and 1989.

Roy Bradford

Article Abstract:

Politician and writer Roy Bradford gained the Gold Medal in Modern Languages at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He won the Victoria seat in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1965, and in 1967 became Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Education. He became a member of the Privy Council, and in 1969 gained promotion to the post of Commerce. He was head of the Dept of Environment in Brian Faulkner's power-sharing executive in 1974, and in 1975 stood unsuccessfully in the convention election in East Belfast.

Sosuke Uno

Article Abstract:

Politician Sosuke Uno was elected to the Japanese House of Representatives for the first time in 1960 at the age of 38. He became a Vice-Minister at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1966, and also served as a junior minister in the Science and Technology Agency and the Administrative Agency. He was Foreign Secretary between 1987 and 1989. He became Prime Minister in Jun 1989, but was forced to resign after only 69 days following allegations of an affair with a prostitute.
