Tony may love the capitalists, but thankfully Clare has kept cool

Article Abstract:

UK government minister Clare Short is right to have made it quite clear that she will not promote British businesses while on aid trips. She believes that aid should be conditional only on whether the recipient country has introduced the required policies in relation to human rights. In contrast, the Conservative party seems to believe that it is the government's job to negotiate contracts abroad. It is not justified to argue that trade relations should be put before human rights in order to secure jobs in the UK.
