Truth is dying in the ruins of silent capital

Article Abstract:

The Serb authorities claim that the many ethnic Albanians who have fled Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, Yugoslavia, did so because of Nato bomb attacks. This does not explain why ethnic Albanian streets are deserted and ethnic Albanian shops have been looted and smashed up. The Serbs also claim that Nato bombing has caused widespread damage in Pristina, while Nato alleges that the city's Serbs have been blowing up their own homes. The centre of Pristina has certainly suffered extensive damage, and this could only have been caused by missiles or air-fired ordnance.

Homeless drag themselves from the ruins to the chaos of a canvas slum

Article Abstract:

Tents have been provided for Turks who have been made homeless as a result of an earthquake Some 600 tents have been set up outside Izmit, Turkey, where over 40,000 homes have become uninhabitable. Similar camps are being set up in other locations and there are concerns that diseases could spread. Typhoid is seen as a risk, and there are criticisms about the lack of coordination. Soldiers are involved in unnecessary tasks such as the distribution of clothes, when they could be digging latrines.

Healing spirit lives amid the ruins

Article Abstract:

The US peace plan for former Yugoslavia, which will create a border between east and west running through the middle of Bosnia, is regarded with concern by some Muslims. They can see that both Serbs and Croats have been at fault but that neither the entire Serb population nor the entire Croat population should be blamed. They do not wish to live in an area where there are only Muslims, preferring to hold out hope of a united Bosnia.
