UK: BOOTS PLANS INTERNET INITIATIVE

Article Abstract:

UK-based retail group, Boots, plans to establish an Internet portal and part of a major Internet strategy designed to give its Boots the Chemist arm a competitive edge in terms of product range, healthcare data and price. Boots is keen to become the leading online health brand in the UK with the planned portal becoming a gateway to electronic commerce and information operations. A healthcare information database is also planned, enabling users to diagnose certain illnesses themselves and access suggested remedies. Boots' e-commerce approach had previously been the focus of concern among experts and its lack of progress in embracing the Internet had let to its core markets being infiltrated by smaller rivals. Boots, which has a 13% prescriptions market share, plans in the coming three year to devote GB[pound] 11mn to the website. Boots will create an Internet sites aimed specifically at men, with the Boots Men site offering advice on a number of aspects.

UK: JUST2CLICKS FLOTATION A SUCCESS

Article Abstract:

Just2Clicks' flotation involving about 39% of overall stock at GB[pound] 1.50 per share succeeded in raising GB[pound] 50mn, demonstrating the extent of investor interest in firms involved in electronic commerce. The newly established UK-based business-to-business (B2B) Web site company was valued on 16 February 2000 at GB[pound] 212mn after a GB[pound] 0.94 increase in its share price, to GB[pound] 2.44. Analysts noted that leading firms in Europe are now embracing B2B e-commerce, a market estimated to be worth GB[pound] 20bn in 1999.

UK: WOWGO FAILS TO SECURE FUNDING

Article Abstract:

Failure to secure additional funding has meant that Wowgo.com, the Internet site aimed at teenage girls has had to cease trading and is not in talks with potential buyers. Wowgo.com was launched in June 2000 with help from specialist broking firm Durlacher, and consumer products group Unilever.
