UK: CABLE & WIRELESS PLANS WEB HOSTING FACILITY

Article Abstract:

Cable & Wireless announced plans 2 March 2000 to build an Internet hosting facility in Swindon at a cost of GB[pound] 100mn. Computer servers that are used to connect companies and individuals to Internet sites are held in hosting centres. The new facility, which will be one of the biggest in Europe, is scheduled to be operational in summer 2000 and capable of hosting every web site in the UK.

UK: BT REVEALS PLANS TO FLOAT IGNITE

Article Abstract:

British Telecom (BT) has revealed plans to float its business-to-business Internet operation, Ignite. Ignite is said to comprise of software and systems integration operations along with Internet hosting and software application service provision. The subsidiary could be floated as soon as 2001 although a date has yet to be formally set.

UK: BG CONTEMPLATES TELECOMS EXPANSION

Article Abstract:

BG, the gas pipelines and production group, may expand into the telecoms business. It is currently undergoing restructuring, which will separate its regulated Transco monopoly gas pipeline business from the rest of its operations. The Transco network could potentially be used as a conduit for fibre-optic cables.
