UK: BURFORD HOLDINGS PLANS SHELL JOINT VENTURE

Article Abstract:

UK property company Burford Holdings is holding negotiations over a possible joint venture with Anglo-Dutch oil company Shell. The GB[pound] 250mn venture would involve the construction of a rail-based distribution and manufacturing park on the Carrington chemicals complex owned by Shell in Manchester. It would also see the restoration of a disused line between Altrincham and Irlam, in order to provide manufacturers with direct links to Europe. A growing network of similar rail-freight parks in the UK is offering convenient access to national and international railways. Around 8,000-14,000 jobs would be created at the 'Trafford Interchange-Manchester', 1,200-acre site, providing a welcome boost to the economy of the region.
