UK: SPECIAL DISC FOR OVERSEAS HAULIERS?

Article Abstract:

In an effort to prevent further protests over fuel, the government is contemplating making overseas lorry drivers purchase special discs which would allow them to operate in Britain. British firms would be able to purchase their disc more cheaply than overseas hauliers. Other options include a secure credit card for hauliers so they buy fuel more cheaply and a new tax rebates system and vehicle excise duty reductions for lorries. It seems unlikely the government will agree to a cut in fuel duty for all motorists as a 2p cut would cost the Treasury GB3 1bn a year.
