UK: MORE NURSES STRUCK OFF IN 1999

Article Abstract:

In 1999, 96 nurses were removed from the professional register, compared with 45 in 1994, according to the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing Midwifery & Health Visiting (UKCC). An increase in the amount of complaints covering physical or verbal abuse against patients is the reason for the increase. Almost 50% of the 1,142 claims of transgression by UKCC members were from employers, with 22% coming from the general public.
