UK: NEW CONVENIENCE OUTLET FROM KINGFISHER

Article Abstract:

UK retailer Kingfisher which owns both Woolworths and Superdrug is to test out a new convenience outlets selling products offered by both Woolworths and Superdrug and sell drinks and sandwiches in addition. It intends to open ten such as yet unnamed outlets this year, with the first due to open in Palmers Green, north London at the end of February. Others are planned for Muswell Hill, London and Sheffield. He development will mean it competes more closely with both Wal-Mart-Asda and Boots.

UK: SAINSBURY TO CUT CD PRICES

Sainsbury will offer the 100 best-selling chart CDs in the UK at GB[pound] 9.99 each from 18 February 2000. The UK supermarket chain's move will see it enter the price battle being waged in the CD market.

UK: SAINSBURY OFFER TO SAFEWAY CUSTOMERS

Article Abstract:

J Sainsbury is offering customers of rival UK-based supermarket chain, Safeway, 500 Reward points through to 10 June 2000 when they return the latter's ABC loyalty cards at its stores. Safeway opted to shelve its loyalty initiative earlier in May 2000, preferring to introduce bigger price cuts.
