UK: SAFEWAY UNDER FIRE OVER PETROL PRICE RISE

Article Abstract:

UK-based supermarket group, Safeway, has been criticised for raising petrol prices by GB[pound] 0.05 to GB[pound] 84.9 per litre. The People's Fuel Lobby urged motorists to shun Safeway, while other opponents have questioned the move in the light of protests over fuel prices. Safeway noted it was losing money by offering fuel at GB[pound] 79.9, saying that people using its forecourts would still be able to purchase cheap petrol because they would be entitled to a GB[pound] 0.10 per litre discount after spending a minimum of GB[pound] 40 in its stores.
