Hollick's express route to profit

Article Abstract:

Considerable changes have taken place at the Daily Express and Sunday Express newspapers since they were merged by Lord Hollick in 1996. The merger initially involved dismissing around 80 editorial staff from both newspapers, and a further 70 have subsequently left. The quality of journalism was inevitably negatively affected, as was circulation. New Editor Rosie Boycott has added coherence to the newspaper, but some observers fear that it has now become too strong a supporter of Prime Minister Tony Blair.

UK: DAILY STAR TO GET SUNDAY EDITION

Article Abstract:

The owner of Express Newspapers, Richard Desmond, has revealed plans to launch a Sunday edition of the Daily Star newspaper. It is thought that the title will be launched in 2001 and challenge other Sunday tabloids such as the News of the World, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People. Financing for the proposed launch would come partly from the closure of four of the company's dot.com interests.
