The Mohegan Sun casino, situated just over two hours' drive from New York, NY, is proving an extremely profitable venture for the Mohegan tribe, formerly known as the Mohicans. The business, which opened in Oct 1996, is likely to achieve gross revenue of $350 million in its first year of operation, and is already attracting between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors a day. The Mohegan tribe set up the casino in a partnership deal with Sol Kerzner, creator of Sun City in South Africa.
