UK cement industry can hold weight of RMC deal

Article Abstract:

RMC Group has emphasized that its purchase of cement manufacturer Rugby Group for around 920 million pounds sterling is part of its strategy of consolidating its position as one of the top heavy building materials concerns internationally. This deal will have significant repercussions, as it is the first time in the UK that a leading ready-mixed concrete supplier has linked with a top supplier of cement, its most expensive ingredient. RMC believes that the deal will almost certainly be approved without changes by competition officials, partly because existing customer relationships will remain.
