Visionary cure or short-sighted approach?

Article Abstract:

Laser treatment known as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is generally acknowledged to be effective in curing mild myopia, and has been available privately in the UK for several years now. However, concerns are now being expressed about possible side-effects, as it has been found that around 15% of people who have had PRK treatment lose some visual acuity, with a further 10% experiencing halos around lights at night. There is also concern about the lack of data about the outcome of PRK operations.

Kossoff: reluctant urban visionary

Article Abstract:

It is impossible to discern a master plan which unites the paintings of Leon Kossoff, some of which are currently being exhibited at the Tate Gallery in London, England. He is a painter who follows his instincts, and his works tend to reconstruct aspects of city life in his favourite parts of London, England. His is the sort of art which is best seen in secret, and does not lend itself well to a formal exhibition.

Sweet beams

Article Abstract:

Laser treatment can be very effective in correcting shortsightedness. It is almost completely painless, and can be carried out very quickly. Most people treated in this way notice an almost immediate improvement in their eyesight, and many find that they no longer need to wear glasses. However, the treatment is still relatively new, and there is a slight danger of over- or under-correction.
