Waits and measures

Article Abstract:

The very essence of Samuel Beckett's play 'Waiting for Godot' is waiting, an experience which is common to every human being, according to actor Alan Howard. He is appearing with Ben Kingsley in Peter Hall's new production of this play at the Old Vic in London, England. Howard and Kingsley have had very different careers, and their performances in this play seem to represent a dialogue between film and theatre. Kingsley gives a more visually inventive performance than Howard, and their characters produce humour in different ways.

Having the time of his life

Article Abstract:

Some actors reach their prime later in life than others, according to Ken Stott, who has only really been in very strong demand over the last few years. He is prepared to lose out financially in order to make the right decisions from the artistic point of view, and has been known to turn down roles if he feels that they are not suitable for him. Most recently, he has appeared in the television drama 'Rhodes,' and is shortly to appear in 'Art' at Wyndham's Theatre in London, England.

Woof woof, ding dong, hallooo

Article Abstract:

Working with top actors can be a wonderful experience, according to actor Leslie Phillips. He became very well known for his comic roles, but when he was in his 50s decided to move away from this genre. He has now become established as a serious actor, and has recently appeared in the twin stage-and-screen productions of 'August,' a version of 'Uncle Vanya.' He is keen to emphasise that in real life he is not the same as the characters he often played in comic roles.
