Wanted - a director general who can lead the BBC out of the imperial past

Article Abstract:

The deliberations surrounding the selection of the next BBC Director General should take into account the fact that the BBC currently fails to present a multiracial view of UK society. Black and Asian journalists now play a more active role within the BBC, but the really influential programmes still fail to reflect the diversity of UK society. Care must be taken to ensure that the BBC becomes the institution that is demanded by the diverse nature of UK society.
