Warning: the Internet will eat your advertising

Article Abstract:

The issue of the impact of the Internet on newspapers' classified advertising revenue is becoming increasingly pressing as more and more newspapers establish an Internet presence. Advertisers may begin to find that they can reach potential customers more effectively on their own, while consumers are using online services, rather than newspapers, for the information they require. Some newspapers have responded by joining forces with, or even purchasing, an existing Internet service.

Dirty linen aired on Thanksgiving

Article Abstract:

Many television programmes and films in the US are beginning to call into question the traditional view of American family life. Films such as 'Pleasantville' draw attention to the limits of small-town America, presenting the secure, innocent days of the 1950s as emotionless and bigoted. These programmes and films wish to make ordinary Americans aware that the idealized world of a country based on family values does not exist.

Bradley buzz starts to woo US electors

Article Abstract:

Democratic presidential candidate Bill Bradley is beginning to attract widespread attention, even though he is still a long way behind Vice-President Al Gore for the Democratic nomination. He has shown that he can identify closely with ordinary people, and has successfully exploited his old-fashioned upbringing and manner. He is also beginning to exploit Gore's problems with connecting with ordinary people.
