Article Abstract:

Growing concern about the privacy of Internet users has led to the development of personal privacy tools that permit Internet users to regain some control over their personal details. Startup company Zero Knowledge is shortly to launch Freedom, software which is said to be able to cover up all tracks of Internet usage with strong cryptography. Law-enforcement agencies are concerned about this technology, as they rely increasingly heavily on electronic eavesdropping systems to track criminal activity.

Information provision will become a key service in 21st century society. In particular, growing emphasis will be placed on providing information via the Internet. It is true that Internet-related businesses are currently very overvalued, but this should not blind observers to the fact that the Internet itself is a very powerful medium. Electronic newspapers have great potential to deliver news extremely rapidly. They also represent a significant cost saving compared with conventional newspapers.
