West gives its tacit support to Bosnian 'traitor' Plavsic

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom and US are tacitly supporting Biljana Plavsic, President of the Serbian-controlled part of Bosnia, called Republika Srpska. Plavsic is involved in a power struggle with Radovan Karadzic, who appears to want a partition of Bosnia and a possible inclusion of Srpska in Serbia itself. Plavsic is concerned about Karadzic's benefiting from a black market economy. Plavsic is a nationalist but is a moderate in comparison with Karadzic in that she agrees to a dialogue with the Muslim Croat federation.

'Euphoria' wrecks imam's village

Article Abstract:

Iman Adil Alukic of Cela, Bosnia, had shown journalists his coffee shop and mosque in 1992 when the Serbs claimed it was an example of Muslim-Serb cohabitation, but it was blown up by Jul 1993. There were 1,200 Muslims and 500 Serbs living in the village in 1992, but most Muslims had left a year later. The Iman believed the authorities had agreed to protect them if they did not fight. Inspector Radovan of the Prijedor Serb police admitted that there had been euphoric destruction in Cela.

Should we intervene with arms?

Article Abstract:

Novelists, war photographers and military historians give their views on British military intervention in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Humanitarian relief is considered important and not everyone approves of military action. History shows that British troops would be in a terrible situation. Although UN credibility should be reinforced, troops would be absorbed. All that can be achieved is to stop the war spreading.
