What to do when Christmas is no cracker

Article Abstract:

Psychotherapist Christine Heal holds a Christmas workshop for people who do not enjoy themselves at Christmas because of unhappy family gatherings or loneliness. She makes participants realise the reasons behind their feelings and gives them advice on how to change their attitudes. Hidden resentments tend to come out when people have eaten and drunk too much, but planning can avoid rows. Delegation of chores and telling companions your wishes help.

The fit that can be fatal

Article Abstract:

It is believed that up to 1,500 people die every year in the UK from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (Sudep). This usually affects young people, and is more common in men than women. In many cases, families of victims and doctors are totally unaware that the condition exists. Research is now being undertaken which will compare the heart and brain waves of people who died of Sudep with those of living epilespy suffers.

In search of a different kind of male bonding

Article Abstract:

Unemployed men near Bristol, Avon, England, attend fathering sessions at the Lawrence Weston Family Centre run by Barnardo's and part-financed by Avon Social Services. Few family centres offer these services to men. Unemployment alters the roles of men and women, and men benefit from sharing child care worries with each other. All those attending were influenced by fathers who were abusive or away.
