Why Israel didn't avenge its general

Article Abstract:

It is clear that Lebanese guerrillas were responsible for the ambush and murder of Brigadier General Ezer Gerstein and two of his Israeli soldiers on a road in southern Lebanon running between Christian and Druze villages. It is possible that the guerrillas were Druze or Christian militiamen working for the Hizbollah, reinforcing Hizbollah claims of a guerrilla movement of all religions acting as an anti-Israeli resistance group in southern Lebanon. This would explain why it was possible to launch an ambush on a stretch of road regarded by the Israelis as the safest in southern Lebanon.

US plan for Lebanon kills ceasefire hopes

Article Abstract:

The plan put forward by the US to end the conflict between Israel and Lebanon is little more than a replica of the demands being made by Israel for the disarming of Hizbollah guerillas in southern Lebanon. It has been rejected by Lebanon, which claims that it goes against all United Nations resolutions on the Middle East peace process. It now seems likely that the fighting will continue for the foreseeable future.
