Why Opec's back in business

Article Abstract:

It is widely believed that the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) will be able to reach an agreement to reduce production and improve the fortunes of the oil industry. Confidence in Opec's ability to reach a lasting deal has already prompted a significant rise in oil prices. However, few experts believe that Opec will be able to reach its stated goal of increasing the price of West Texas Intermediate, which is currently selling at around $15 a barrel, back up to the range of between $18 and $20 a barrel.

Opec acts to stop slide in oil price

Article Abstract:

Oil traders believe that that the decision by Opec to reduce output by almost 1.4 million barrels a day will have a positive impact in the short term in reversing the decline in oil prices. However, they are less certain about the long-term prospects, as individual Opec members may be tempted to produce more than the agreed amounts. The Opec members, which rely heavily on oil revenues, have been working hard to convince the market that the cuts really will be made.

Heavy-handed Imro facing City backlash

Article Abstract:

Mixed views are being expressed in the UK financial services industry about the appropriate role for Imro, the regulatory body for the fund management industry. Some observers believe that Imro's powers are too great, and feel that an external auditor should assess its investigations. Others believe that it is necessary for Imro to be seen to be powerful. Imro has denied that its regulatory procedures deter innocent people from taking their case to appeal.
