Why paint so black a picture?

Article Abstract:

Social Work Paper 30 published by the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (CCETSW) tries to explain the requirements for the Diploma in Social Work, but academics complain that it inspires political correctness and inhibits free debate. Much of the document is unfocused, but it emphasises racism. It states that 'racism is endemic in the values, attitudes and structures of British society.' The UK actually has relatively little racist tension compared to other countries. Professor Robert Pinker of the London School of Economics called for the abolition of CCETSW.

Don't abuse swearing

Article Abstract:

It has now become very common for characters in television programmes to swear, with broadcaster believing that this is justified because it reflects the language used by ordinary people. To a certain extent, swearing can be therapeutic, allowing people express very deep feelings. However, swearing is still extremely offensive to some people, and care should therefore be taken with the context in which swearing takes place in television programmes. Furthermore, excessive swearing also debases the impact of swear words, reducing them to no more than everyday language.

Our plunge into the gene pool

Article Abstract:

Biology will supercede physics as the most powerful science in the 21st century since the discovery of the double helix structure of the DNA molecule in 1953. The international project to sequence the human genome will have an immediate impact. The use of DNA to cure cystic fibrosis and artificial production of substances like human growth hormone is acceptable but eugenics is considered dishonourable.
