Wind of change in Kensington

Article Abstract:

Paul Dacre, 42, moves from the 'Evening Standard' to the 'Daily Mail,' said to be a Conservative party newspaper, as editor. Although he is a supporter of John Major, the Prime Minister, he is anti-Europe. Stewart Steven, executive deputy editor on the 'Daily Mail' till 1982, leaves the 'Mail on Sunday' to become editor of the 'Evening Standard.' The 'Mail on Sunday' will be edited by Jonathan Holborow, previously deputy editor of the 'Daily Mail.' Dacre was offered the editorship of the 'Times' by Rupert Murdoch, to replace Simon Jenkins, who wished to stand down.

Conspiracies abound as Cole quits 'toughest job in PR.' (Michael Cole retires as public affairs director for Mohamed al-Fayed)

Article Abstract:

Considerable speculation surrounds the retirement of Michael Cole from his position as public affairs director for Mohamed al-Fayed, owner of Harrods department store in London, England. Harrods and Cole emphasize that his retirement has been mutual and amicable. However, some observers believe that he may have been forced to leave. He gained a strong reputation for being able to smooth over the often rather unfortunate statements made by al-Fayed.
