Microbial transhalogenation: a complicating factor in determination of atmospheric chloro- and bromomethane budgets

Article Abstract:

Researchers from the United Kingdom demonstrated that intact cells of soil bacterium strain CC495 under anaerobic or microaerophilic conditions rapidly exchange inorganic chloride with the organically bound chlorine in Ch3Cl and catalyzed the transhalogenation of CH3Br to CH3Cl.

Gas-phase photocatalytic oxidation of dichlorobutenes

Article Abstract:

Dichlorobutenes are treated through semiconductor photocatalysis using TiO(sub 2) and studied using isotope ration mass spectrometry to show the kinetics of dichlorobutene oxidation. A method for diclorobutene reduction is postulated, with chloroacetaldehyde as the primary byproduct.

A dynamic study and modeling of the formation of polyhydroxyalkanoates combined with treatment of high strength wastewater

Article Abstract:

Potato starch is used in a laboratory experiment to study the simultaneous remediation of organic waste and the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). The design of a reactor is drawn out, and the model chemical operation is graphed for optimum production.
