Adsorptive partitioning of an organic compound onto polyelectrolyte-immobilized micelles on porous glass and sand

Article Abstract:

A permeable reactive barrier is created using quartz sand, pore glass, and sea sand, and treated with micelles of Triton X-100, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and poly-(diallyldimethylammonium chloride). Orange OT is added to the mixture, representing the movement of organic contaminents.

Regeneration of perchlorate-loaded anion exchange resins by a novel tetrachloroferrate displacement technique

Article Abstract:

Tetrachloroferrate anions are added to perchlorate-loaded resins in order to more effectively regenerate the perchlorate with a brine solution. Graphs show the desorption kinetics of perchlorate-loaded resins and the regeneration with tetrachloroferrate anions.

Highly effective adsorption of heavy metal ions by a thiol-functionalized magnesium phyllosilicate clay

Article Abstract:

In order to make water drinkable, researchers are looking for ways to remove low concentrations of toxic metal from contaminated waters. The authors investigated a thiol-functionalized layered magnesium phyllosilicate as an adsorbent for metals in water. The Mg-MTMS is effective for capturing metal ions, a finding that may prove effective in the remediation of water.
