Alpha-imino esters: versatile sunstrates for one catalytic, asymmetric synthesis of alpha- and beta-amino acids and beta-lactams

Article Abstract:

Optically enriched alpha- and beta-amino acid derivatives and beta-lactams are derived by catalytic asymmetric addition of nucleophiles to alpha-imino esters. Research indicates that alpha-iminoesters are highly reactive as electrophilic imines and their strong electrophilicity in relation to their chelation to metal-based catalysts facilitate catalytic asymmetric reactions.

The mechanism of methanol to hydrocarbon catalysis

Article Abstract:

The mechanism of methanol conversion proved to be an intellectually challenging problem; 25 years of fundamental study produced at least 20 distinct mechanisms. The process of converting methanol to hydrocarbons on the aluminosilicate zeolite HZSM-5 was originally developed as a route from natural gas to synthetic gasoline.

Advances in the catalytic, asymmetric synthesis of beta-lactams

Article Abstract:

Catalytic, asymmetric synthesis of beta-lactams through a flexible (2+2) cycloaddition strategy is explained. This can be utilized in future research of catalytic asymmetric synthesis of trans-beta-lactams and beta-lactam containing natural products and inhibitors of interest.
