An approach to compositional trends in Latin America

Article Abstract:

Issues related to developing an approach to understanding Latin American musical composers are examined, focusing on identifying key composers and characteristics of Latin American music. Topics include the influence of a colonial political structure; composers such as Oscar Bazan, Joaquin Orellana, and Tim Rescala; and musical qualities such as a sense of time, reiterative elements, violence, the primitive, and use of technology for one's own musical purposes.
