An intelligent planning environment for automated dimensional inspection using coordinate measuring machines

Article Abstract:

The basic structure of an intelligent inspection planning environment for automated dimensional inspection using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) is described. The planning environment has three levels automation technology which include facility automation, information and decision automation. In facility automation, operations of the CMMs are studied for the dimensional inspection of manufactured objects. A computer-aided design (CAD) inspection system is applied at the information level. In the decision making level, an inspection planner is used to link the CAD/CMM system with inspection goals.

Automated welding

Article Abstract:

Automated welding requires less human interaction and equipment is adaptable enough to permite the system to accommodate a range of components. However, automation cannot always be justified due to high investment in capital equipment. Manual welding is preferred in some applications, such as pipeline welding, as if can offer increased flexibility.
