Neurons and Silicon Get Intimate

Article Abstract:

Researchers are developing primitive networks of neurons that sit on top of transistors or other microelectronic devices and communicate with cells. This represents a very real step towards creating cyborgs, or combining computer hardware with biological matter. The networks are no more than a few cells, but the potential implications can affect many different fields.

Analog computational power

Article Abstract:

Arguments that analog computation could be more powerful than digital computing are unconvincing. The extra advice needed by a chaotic system to compute the class P/poly must either occur randomly or be predetermined by the computer programmer.

Analog computational power

Article Abstract:

The roles of physical constants and programmed or random weights in a neural networks model are discussed. The model exceeds the power of the Turing machine whether resource constraints are present or absent.
