Bridge over the river Karnali

Article Abstract:

An international group of engineers, contractors, and constructing crew has built the world's longest cable-stayed bridge on the Karnali River in Nepal. The asymmetric, single tower bridge has a main span of 325 m and a side span of 175 m. The collaborators, Steinman Boynton Gronquist & Birdsall engineering consultant and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan, had to overcome the persistent geographical and climatological difficulties in erecting the bridge. The bridge provides connection to the Asian Highway, which links Asia to Europe through the Middle East. The Karnali River Bridge construction process is discussed.
