Catalytic transmetalation from group 6 Fischer carbene complexes: An emerging powerful tool in organic synthesis

Article Abstract:

The reactivity of the compounds that can be enhanced or modified in the presence of catalytic amounts of a transition metal, leading to new forms of reactivity and others offering clear advantages in terms of efficiency over the uncatalyzed reactions is described. The process generates a new metal carbene complex that leads to enhanced reactivity of new reaction models.

Applications of total synthesis to problems in neurodegeneration: Fascinating chemistry along the way

Article Abstract:

The possibility for the application of organic synthesis to the discovery of new agents in combating neurodegenerative disorders is described. In particular, the syntheses of seven different central nervous system (CNS)-active natural products and their structurally related analogues are discussed.

Diazirines: Carbene precursors par excellence

Article Abstract:

A discussion is presented on the synthetic and mechanistic dimensions that govern the range, availability and utility of diazirines. The diazirines are ideal precursors for spectroscopic studies of carbenes, either by matrix isolation or in solution by laser flash photolysis.
