Article Abstract:

The Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, CO, has two semi-circular wings connected by a 12-story domed building. The design of the structural frame was complicated by the lack of right angles in the buildings. Space frames and composite steel-concrete floors to control vibration were used in the wings. A tension-ring beam was used to counter the horizontal force of the dome's arch members and lateral forces such as wind and seismic loads.
