Computer model aids water planning

Article Abstract:

M. Montgomery Consulting Engineers, Inc., Pasadena, CA has developed a computer model which gives a reliable evaluation of an area's ground-water supply. The Central Valley Ground-Surface Simulation Model studies the link between the ground- and surface-water supplies by analyzing their individual flows and their relation to each other to determine their quality, amount and environmental impact. The model may also be used to observe the flow of salt-water into coastal basins and to study probable management schemes and water banking. Its wide scope facilitates better management and planning strategies.

Taming Tornado Alley

Article Abstract:

Tornado Alley is an area that extends from west Texas to Kansas, OK, and the rest of the Midwest. As this is a highly tornado-struck region, many schools and other public buildings have been designed to feature enhanced tornado protective areas (ETPA). This technique involves the fortification of an interior section of a structure. ETPAs do not necessarily require a costly budget.

The digital evolution

Article Abstract:

The revolutionary developments in 3-D design have propelled design engineering into the field of digitalization providing a faster and cheaper altenative to the traditional designing. The greatest advantage of the digital technique is that it is an "iterative process" eliminating trial and error method of construction.
