Digital pre-assembly speeds Boeing 747 upgrades

Article Abstract:

Cathay Pacific is performing a major upgrade of its fleet of approximately 40 Boeing 747s. The installation of new galleys is an important aspect of the upgrade. Innovative Business Solutions' (INBIS) engineers are able to produce a solution for the structural alterations needed by a group of aircraft through the use of 3-D electronic modelling of the aircraft. INBIS is also able to assemble current, as well as, historic data into 3-D electronic simulation of the aircraft from a combination of drawings from Boeing, survey information and standard repair manuals and service bulletins.

Article Abstract:

Innovative Business Solutions (INBIS) is contributing to the development Affordable Manufacture of Composite Aircraft Primary Structure's (AMCAPS II) cost-effective final assembly process for use in various composite aircraft primary structures. INBIS is utilizing 3-D simulation in the design of the assembly process. The use of simulation tools enables the manufacturing and assembly processes to be easily understood, illustrated and evaluated in the correct context. INBIS is considering the use of Virtual Reality to demonstrate the final results of the AMCAPS II project.
