Article Abstract:

RAMAR Technology is a leading maker and supplier of automatic meter reading (AMR) systems. The company, whose products are used by many utilities, has developed a new, mobile AMR reader after working closely with industrial design consultant Product Partners Ltd. (PPL). The meter, which will be made in the UK and India, was taken from the drawing board to completion within six man weeks with the help of a 3D CAM system. PPL has also designed a new, modular electricity meter for client Polymeters Response International.

Driving on

Article Abstract:

Drives technology, and inverter technology in particular, is likely to become a feature of the plug-in technology. The trend of examining switching technology has become predominant. The cost of running the equipment is high when maintenance factors are taken into account. Companies require professionally skilled workers to manage the systems. The growth of more industries in the field can bring the cost of installation down and make the system accessible to a maximum number of firms.

Learning to fly: away from its usual role running production machinery, compressed air also has an important part to play in some of the latest research facilities

Article Abstract:

Some of the UK's latest research facilities use compressed air to carry out their jobs correctly. Southampton University's Institute of Sound and Vibration Research uses compressed air to test the structure integrity of satellite components. Other applications include high pressure air for wind tunnels and acoustic tunneling for testing jet engine noise.
