Defusing the millennium bomb

Article Abstract:

A survey of over 500 information technology (IT) and business directors in UK revealed a seemingly reasonable amount of awareness of the year 2000 date computer date change problem and its effect on their operations. However, only 15% of senior managers are fully aware of the problem. This has induced the government to launch an initiative called Task Force 2000 to increase awareness and hopefully start a program of countermeasures.

Article Abstract:

A survey of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the UK showed that many have yet to benefit from their investments in information technology (IT). Of the nearly 80% that have implemented IT systems, only 65% and 34% experienced improved efficiency and customer service, respectively. This situation is attributed to the failure of firms to select IT systems that suit their core business operations.
