Fitting the bill

Article Abstract:

Automobile companies are seeking engineers with experience in automotive engineering, a customer focus and between 25 and 35 years old. The changing workplace with a new customer-oriented philosophy and fast pace is influencing the industry's requirements. Individual companies are having mixed experiences in seeking these applicants with one company having no difficulty while another is turning to aerospace and related industries for qualified applicants.

Cash deals: The engineering sector is setting the pace in a frantic round of global corporate takeovers

Article Abstract:

UK engineering companies almost doubled their expenditure on acquisitions of foreign businesses in 1998, according to a report published by KPMG Corporate Finance. The UK continues to account for a large proportion of total global engineering deals, and GEC's acquisition of Tracor of the US has dominated the scene. Electrical and electronic engineering businesses were the most popular targets for UK companies.

Research shows that businesses in the United Kingdom are keen to maintain a good record in health and safety if they can afford to. Government body Health and Safety Executive findings indicate that companies have a positive attitude towards health and safety for moral and business reasons. Financial constraints sometimes outweigh moral motives in issues regarding health and safety, however.
