Environmental R&D shifts to pollution prevention

Article Abstract:

Pollution prevention has become the focus of environmental R&D in industry in the last 10 years, edging out pollution control and remediation. Among companies which have adopted the proactive stance to environmental R&D in recent years are DuPont, which has increased its investments in green products and cleaner processes, and Scandinavian energy firm ABB, which allots $2 billion annually on environmental R&D for products such as low-emission combustion systems for power plants and low-loss electricity transmission systems. However, some experts believe that expensive new technologies are required to realize developments in pollution prevention.
