Epidemiology faces its limits

Article Abstract:

Epidemiologist have exhausted the obvious determinants of most noninfectious diseases, and have been releasing studies of nebulous risk factors, which may be misleading the public more than helping. Epidemiology faces inborn problems by being an observational rather than experimental science.

NCI reverses one expert panel, sides with another

Article Abstract:

NCI adopted the recommendation of the National Cancer Advisory Board that women aged 40 to 49 have mammograms every 1 or 2 years. The new recommendations contradict the conclusions of a National Institutes of Health panel, and debate on the issue continues.
