Explosive reactions: a backlash from a nuclear espionage case might hurt science and do little to bolster national security

Article Abstract:

The political response to an alleged espionage at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico could undermine efforts to stabilize the global nuclear balance of power and hamper science. Arms control experts argued that drastic measures, notably banning foreign scientists from visiting nuclear laboratories in the US, will not enhance national security in a significant way and could be a bane to basic science.
