From sediment to solid

Article Abstract:

An innovative technology combining an in-situ method and a reagent blend saved $10 million in treating 32 acres of a storm-water impoundment area contaminated with petroleum waste sediments from a Gulf Coast refinery. The method was developed by International Technology Corp., Pittsburgh, and Davy International, California. A reagent blend made from combustion by-products was used to solidify 500,000 cubic yards of petroleum sediments. The reagent did not use portland cement, as the cement would have hiked up the project cost.

Lean-burn catalysts

Article Abstract:

Copper zeolites offer a possible solution to nitrogen emission problems that plague the development of new applications for diesel engines, two-stroke engines and lean-burning four-stroke engines. The zeolites could be used to trap hydrocarbons than could in turn be used to reduce nitrogen gases.
