The proposed European High Power Laser Energy Research (HiPER) facility is designed to investigate the latest concept for efficient generation of power from fusion, the power of the Sun. The HiPER project is designed to establish a credible route towards a commercial power plant by using a new technique known as 'fast ignition'.
