Grading the states on the environment

Article Abstract:

Louisiana State University has graded states environmentally based on their use of nonregulatory tax, their ability to blend traditional rules with nonregulatory incentives, and command and control measures. The Toxic Release Inventory is treated as the index of a state's environmental management policy. California rates high in pollution control despite its industrial base. Colorado also ranks high as its industrial pollution is well below the national average. Despite their mediocre industries, states such as Nevada rank in the middle as their pollution level exceeds the national average.

However, the country is facing environmental problems such as air pollution, soil erosion and water pollution. The government should take actions such as adopting energy-efficient technologies and implementing tougher environmental laws to save its environment from further damage.
