Gravity Measurements Close in on Big G

Article Abstract:

Since the time that Henry Cavendish used a torsion balance experiment to figure the weight of the earth there have been many attempts to measure gravity with varying results. At a meeting of 45 scientists interested in the measuring gravity met in London during 1998 they were surprised to find that six groups had developed new values of gravity. Though the methods used for the research was different, the results were all very similar.

Death by the Numbers

Article Abstract:

Arbitrage is becoming wide spread in financial circles, as computer models become more sophisticated and market anomalies become more evident. Mathematical approaches are most often used in the stock and bond markets as computer programs detect prices that may be slightly off their mark. The approach is not foolproof, however, as evidenced by the August 1998 Russian debt default when an international panic ensued.
