Hanford's nuclear wasteland

Article Abstract:

In 1989, the state of Washington, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Environmental Protection Agency began the project of cleaning up the former plutonium production plant of Hanford, WA. The DOE will spend an estimated $200 to $400 billion dollars to cleanup all the nuclear weapon sites in the US.

Down the drain: Russia continues to pump nuclear waste into the ground, despite U.S. aid

Article Abstract:

Russian officials are persisting in their practice of disposing of their liquid nuclear waste into the earth. This was discovered by US scientists at the Tomsk and Krasnoyarsk which were major sites for the Russian nuclear weapons complex.
